Raipur, Jun 30 (PTI) The Chhattisgarh government has given a three-month extension to Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain, who was set to retire on Monday, Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao said.

The 1989-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer was appointed as the 12th chief secretary of the state on November 30, 2020.

“The government has decided to continue the service of the Chief Secretary for three more months,” Sao told reporters after the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai.

As per the state public relations department’s website, Jain, a native of Chhattisgarh, was born on June 21, 1965 in Durg district. He had his early education in Dalli Rajhara town. He topped the Higher Secondary 11th Board exam in undivided Madhya Pradesh. After obtaining a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bhopal, Jain completed MTech from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi.

Jain’s first posting was as Assistant Collector in Jabalpur of undivided Madhya Pradesh in June 1990. After the formation of Chhattisgarh in November 2000, Jain served as the collector of Raipur and Bilaspur districts and was also secretary, principal secretary and additional chief secretary in various state departments.
