New Delhi, Jul 23 (PTI) A 27-year-old security guard was arrested for allegedly assaulting a salesman and ransacking a clothing store in north Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar, police said on Wednesday. The accused, Sumit, was part of a mob of seven to eight men who forced themselves inside a clothes shop on June 24, beat a salesman, and sacked the store, breaking its mirrors and LED displays, police said. “Sumit had been absconding since the incident and frequently changing his location to evade arrest. Five other accused were already arrested by the local police, while Sumit remained on the run,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Harsh Indora said. Sumit was arrested on a tip-off from the Azadpur Mandi area on July 22.
He revealed that he worked as a security guard in Azadpur Mandi and lived in Swaroop Nagar, the officer said. Sumit said he dropped out of school after the fourth grade and started drinking. He said he joined the attacking group at the request of his friend Chaitanya alias Chetan, who had a grudge against the store owner, the officer said. On Chaitanya’s request, Sumit and several others assembled in Libaspur and from there went to the store to teach the owner a lesson. PTI SSJ SSJ VN VN
