Morbi, Apr 17 (PTI) Gujarat deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi on Friday said the women of Saurashtra region had to walk several kilometres to get water during the Congress rule, and it was the Narendra Modi government which ensured water supply in every house.
Sanghavi was speaking at a campaign meeting here ahead of the April 26 local self-government elections.
“Women in Saurashtra walked several kilometres to fetch water due to the misrule of Congress. It was Narendra Modi who (as chief minister) worked to provide water at home in villages,” the BJP leader said.
Women were confined to homes after dark in the past, but now people can move freely even at midnight, he said, crediting the Bharatiya Janata Party for improving safety.
Farmers now receive annual financial support of Rs 6,000, which the Congress administration did not provide, the minister said.
Sanghavi also questioned the integrity of Congress leaders, asking who among them profited from farmers’ funds and built lavish bungalows.
Appealing to the people to vote for development, he assured that BJP candidates would work efficiently for them. PTI KVM KRK
