New Delhi, Jun 16 (PTI) Transparency, accountability and good governance will be the top priorities of the Delhi Jal Board, its newly appointed Vice-Chairman Satish Upadhyay said on Tuesday.
“Strict action will be taken under a zero-tolerance policy against corruption, irregularities and malpractice. DJB is working in mission mode to strengthen water and sewerage infrastructure in the capital,” Upadhyay said, according to a statement issued here.
Along with the senior BJP leader, MLAs Manoj Kumar Shokheen, Ajay Kumar Mahawar and Rajesh Kumar Goyal took charge as members of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB).
Under the Yamuna Rejuvenation Plan, the Delhi government has set a target of enhancing sewage treatment capacity and connecting all unauthorised colonies to the sewer network by December 2028, he said.
He also said the Late Payment Surcharge Waiver Scheme, introduced keeping consumer interests in mind, has provided relief to more than 4.6 lakh consumers, with revenue collections of Rs 637.01 crore so far. The scheme is valid till August 15.
The DJB has so far regularised around 3,107 water connections under a special drive, which enables consumers to regularise illegal water connections by paying Rs 1,000, while non-domestic consumers can do so for Rs 5,000.
To modernise water quality monitoring, the DJB has launched an advanced 24×7 real-time sensor-based pilot project, the Online Water Quality Analyzer, in Gulmohar Park.
“If successful, it will be expanded to other areas. This system continuously monitors key water quality parameters such as residual chlorine, turbidity, pH, and total dissolved solids (TDS), enabling engineers to take immediate corrective action in case of fluctuations,” the statement said.
Upadhyay also announced that a mega public hearing camp will soon be organised to address issues raised by RWAs and the general public. PTI SSM PRK
