Sangli, Mar 1 (PTI) A court in Maharashtra’s Sangli district on Wednesday sentenced a woman and a man to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment (RI) for sexually exploiting a minor girl.
Additional Sessions Judge A H Mahatme held the 49-year-old woman guilty under Indian Penal Code sections 373 (buying minor for purposes of prostitution) and 370 (trafficking of persons), and convicted the man (25) under IPC sections 376 (2) (punishment for rape) and relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
A fine of Rs 75,000 was imposed on the convicts and the court said Rs 50,000 out of the amount should be given to the girl (age not disclosed).
The woman had brought the victim to her house under the pretext of taking care of her education in 2017, but later started abusing her. She made the minor girl dance at religious gatherings and also forced her to establish sexual relations with the male convict, according to police.
The woman tortured the victim multiple times and also tried to force her to marry an elderly person in Pandharpur town in Solapur district and take gold ornaments from him in return, they said.
“The woman once tied the girl to a tree and hit her with a stick. The victim somehow freed herself from the woman’s clutches, and in 2019 a police complaint was filed at the Kupwad police station in Sangli district against the accused,” said the police. PTI COR SPK RSY RSY
