Nagpur, Jul 9 (PTI) Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Wednesday described Sangh ideologue late Moropant Pingley as the “embodiment of complete selflessness”.
Speaking at a book release function in Nagpur, Bhagwat lauded Pingley’s “quiet commitment” to nation-building and his ability to connect with people across ideological lines.
After releasing the book, Moropant Pinglay: The Architect of Hindu Resurgence, Bhagwat recalled the senior RSS leader’s humility, vision, and unique ability to explain complex ideas in simple language.
“Moropant was an embodiment of a complete selflessness. He did many works and he did it with a vision of how this work would benefit nation-building,” Bhagwat said.
Citing Pingley’s predictions during the post-Emergency political churn, Bhagwat said, “When the election issue came up in discussions, Moropant said that nearly 276 seats would be won if all opposition parties came together. And when the results were out, the 276 seats were won.
“When the results were declared, Moropant was at Sajjangad (fort in Satara district of Maharashtra), away from the limelight,” Bhagwat said.
Bhagwat said Pingley spent his last days in Nagpur. “He never spoke a word about his achievements. He would smile and change the topic. He would take care not to get stuck in any felicitation. He would use humour as a sharp weapon to deflect any praise.” Referring to Pingley’s contribution to the Ekatmata Rathyatra from Gangasagar to Somnath, Bhagwat said, “His work during the Rathyatra was described as ‘military precision’ in a newspaper.” “Wherever he spoke, people felt tension-free,” Bhagwat noted. “Even while addressing difficult questions asked by RSS volunteers, he would simply say, ‘Come to RSS shakha, play games; it will automatically contribute to Hindu Rashtra,” he added.
The RSS chief also highlighted Pingley’s efforts in scientific and spiritual pursuits.
“He travelled with scientists for the Saraswati river revival. He connected many people to the RSS and to constructive work. Many of them were not even volunteers, but they joined only because of him,” Bhagwat said. PTI ND VT
