Rich tributes paid to NTR at centenary celebration event in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, May 20 (PTI) Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, his CPI counterpart D Raja and a host of film personalities paid tributes to legendary actor and TDP founder N T Rama Rao here as part of his centenary celebrations.

TDP chief and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, NTR’s son and veteran Telugu actor N Balakrishna and other family members of NTR attended the event on Saturday night.

Recalling the stellar contributions and achievements of NTR as an actor and as the chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, Dattatreya spoke about the revolutionary welfare measures introduced by NTR such as one kg rice for two rupees, housing and the abolition of ‘Patel, Patwari system’ in grassroots administration.

Yechury recalled the greatness of NTR as an actor and also his efforts in the political arena, including a conclave held by him in Vijayawada, which led to the appointment of the Sarkaria Commission on Centre-state relations.

D Raja said NTR played an important role in shaping the federal polity of the nation.

Speaking on the occasion, Naidu said NTR should be given the highest civilian honour of Bharat Ratna.
