New Delhi: Nikhil Advani introduced his new period drama, The Revolutionaries, on Tuesday. The series will revolve around lesser-known freedom fighters such as Rash Behari Bose, Sachindra Nath Sanyal, Pratibha Lahiri and Bagha Jatin.
The Revolutionaries is set to release on Amazon Prime Video on 11 September.
The series is based on Sanjeev Sanyal’s 2023 book Revolutionaries: The Other Story of How India Won Its Freedom. The author is the nephew of Sachindra Nath Sanyal, a freedom fighter also featured in the show.
Played by Rohit Saraf, Sachindra Nath was one of the most prominent leaders of India’s revolutionary movement. Associated with the Ghadar movement, he is remembered as a mentor to revolutionaries such as Bhagat Singh and Chandra Shekhar Azad. He also authored the Hindustan Republican Association’s manifesto, The Revolutionary, as the Non-Cooperation Movement (1919-1922) ended, advocating armed resistance as a means of achieving freedom.
YouTuber Bhuvan Bam will play Rash Behari Bose, who was a key figure in the Ghadar movement. Bose was also involved in plans for an uprising against British rule. Before he became a freedom-fighter, he worked as a clerk at the Forest Research Institute in Dehradun. After the Ghadar movement failed and several of his fellow revolutionaries were arrested by the British, Bose managed to escape and lived out his days in Japan.
The third revolutionary, Bagha Jatin, will be played by Gurfateh Pirzada. In 1899, Jatin worked as a secretary to barrister Pringle Kennedy in Muzaffarpur. He later left the job after witnessing atrocities committed by the British and became the founder and editor of Tihut Courier. Jatin met Bose and Sachindra Nath while working with the Jugantar party.
The fourth and only female revolutionary will be Pratibha Lahiri, played by Pratibha Ranta. Her character will focus on women revolutionaries who worked through underground networks and supported the freedom movement, including Bina Das, Kalpana Datta and Pritilata Waddedar.
The series will also star Jason Shah, Pahli Dam and Tota Roy Chowdhury.
“The Revolutionaries is an adrenaline-fuelled series, built around four brave hearts and their relentless efforts to mobilise a nationwide armed resistance against the British Empire,” said Nikhil Madhok, Director and Head of SVOD Originals, Prime Video India.
Since the show’s announcement, it has already created a buzz online, leaving fans excited for the period drama.
