Visakhapatnam, Apr 17 (PTI) The Waltair Division of the East Coast Railway on Friday introduced a dedicated Rapido pickup booking facility at Visakhapatnam railway station.

Divisional Railway Manager Lalit Bohra inaugurated the facility, which has been set up within the station premises to provide passengers with a designated and organised pickup point.

“The Waltair Division of the East Coast Railway launched a dedicated Rapido pickup facility at Visakhapatnam railway station to streamline passenger movement and enhance last-mile connectivity,” said Bohra in an official press release.

Passengers had been facing delays in booking rides from the station due to inaccurate estimated arrival timings, leading to longer waiting periods, he said.

The DRM noted that riders often remained in transit despite short Estimated Time of Arrivals (ETAs) being displayed, causing inconvenience to passengers and congestion near station exits.

He said the dedicated pickup zone has been developed under the Non-Fare Revenue system to ensure better coordination between passengers and Rapido drivers, reducing waiting time significantly.

The DRM said that the initiative will benefit around 8,000 to 10,000 passengers daily and enable near-zero waiting time, allowing travellers to access rides immediately upon arrival.

Bohra added that the facility prioritises passenger safety, with options for women riders to choose women drivers, while senior citizens and those needing assistance will be served by trained drivers. PTI MS ADB
