Rajkot, Mar 31 (PTI) A police sub-inspector (PSI) and his woman friend were hospitalized with injuries after being hit by a bullet that was accidentally discharged from the cop’s service revolver in Rajkot city of Gujarat, an officer said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred at around 10.30 pm on Monday when PSI Nitin K Pandya accidentally fired a bullet from his service revolver while cleaning the weapon in his flat on the University Road in the presence of his female friend, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Rakesh Desai told PTI.
The bullet first hit Pandya’s right arm and then struck his woman friend near the waist, leading to their hospitalization, Desai said.
The metallic projectile lodged in the woman’s body was successfully removed during surgery at a hospital on Tuesday afternoon, another official stated.
Both injured persons are in a stable condition, he added.
Pandya joined the cyber crime unit of the Rajkot police 15 days ago after being transferred from the Gandhigram-2 (University) police station.
