Rajasthan urban local bodies election on Sept 9, 11

Jaipur, Aug 19 (PTI) Elections to all 309 urban local bodies in Rajasthan will be held in two phases on September 9 and 11, State Election Commissioner Rajeshwar Singh said on Wednesday.

Counting of votes will be held on September 14.

Singh said that the nomination process will start with the issuance of the election notification on August 27. Candidates can file their nominations till August 31. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is September 3.

Elections will be held for 10,245 councillor posts in 309 urban local bodies. These include 10 municipal corporations, 51 municipal councils and 248 municipalities.

The election of heads of urban local bodies will be held on September 21.

General meetings of municipal corporations, municipal councils and municipalities will be held on September 22. Elections for deputy mayors, deputy chairpersons and municipal vice-presidents will be held during these meetings.

There are 1.44 crore voters in 309 urban local bodies, with 29 per cent of them are in the age group of 36-50 years, 25.40 per cent in the age group of 26-35 years and 14.7 per cent voters are in the age group of 18-25 years.

As many as 16,465 polling centres will be set up across the urban local bodies and elaborate security arrangements will be in place, he said.

The model code of conduct came into force in all 309 urban local bodies with the declaration of elections today.

It will remain in force until the civic election process is completed. No new development works can be announced in urban areas during this period. PTI SDA RT RT
