Jaipur, Sep 29 (PTI) Leader of Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly Tikaram Jully on Tuesday accused the BJP government of misusing the police and administration during the recently held urban local body elections.
Jully submitted a memorandum to the State Election Commission seeking action against officials who allegedly acted in favour of the ruling party.
Speaking to reporters after handing over the representation, Jully alleged that the BJP government resorted to hooliganism and intimidation during the elections and that the entire government machinery was engaged in influencing councillors.
“We have submitted evidence to the State Election Commission and also given written complaints in several cases against officials who worked as agents of the BJP. Other complaints were made at the local level. We have demanded action against them,” he said.
Jully alleged that apart from the police and administration, officials from other departments were also deployed in ways that benefited the ruling party.
“Those officials who took an oath on the Constitution but worked as BJP agents will also have their names recorded in the Rajasthan Assembly at the appropriate time so that future generations remember their role,” he said.
Referring to the urban local body election results, Jully claimed that the BJP received fewer votes compared with the previous civic body, Assembly and Lok Sabha elections and that its vote share was nearly at par with that of the Congress.
He alleged that the ruling party sought to cover up its failures by highlighting congratulatory messages from senior BJP leaders, including the prime minister and Union home minister. PTI SDA SHS
