Jaipur, Nov 5 (PTI) The Rajasthan government has constituted six task forces to check illegal sand mining, transportation and storage in the catchment areas of the Jojari, Bandi and Luni rivers in the state.
Additional Chief Secretary (Mines and Petroleum) Aparna Arora said the task forces have been set up in Sirohi, Sojat City, Jalore, Barmer, Jodhpur and Gotan.
She said the teams would ensure that sand mining leaseholders comply with environmental clearance conditions and directions issued by the Supreme Court, National Green Tribunal (NGT) and the High-Level Ecosystem Oversight Committee.
The task forces will regularly inspect mining sites to check violations, including excavation beyond the permitted depth of three metres, mining too close to riverbanks and extraction of sand below the water level.
Arora said the teams had been directed to take action against violations and submit reports.
The task forces have been empowered to take action under Section 23B of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act and relevant provisions of the Rajasthan Minor Mineral Concession Rules, 2017, she said.
Each task force will be headed by an assistant mining engineer and will include geologists, mining foremen and surveyors. PTI SDA MDO
