Jaipur, Sep 5 (PTI) Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Saturday held roadshows in Udaipur and Bhilwara seeking votes for BJP candidates in the upcoming civic body elections, urging people to elect the party in all wards to speed up development.
In Udaipur, Sharma held a roadshow from Surajpole Chowk to Delhi Gate, where residents and BJP workers gathered along the route and welcomed him with flower petals. He also showered flowers on the crowd.
Before the roadshow, the chief minister paid floral tribute to BJP ideologue Syama Prasad Mookerjee.
Addressing a gathering at Bank Tiraha, Sharma said the BJP governments at the Centre and in the state had taken Rajasthan on the path of development and urged voters to elect BJP boards in urban local bodies as well.
“If the BJP forms boards in the urban local bodies along with governments at the Centre and in the state, development schemes will be implemented faster,” he said, referring to it as a “triple-engine government”.
Sharma claimed that his government had fulfilled around 78 per cent of the promises made in its manifesto in two-and-a-half years.
He noted that development works worth Rs 12,000 crore were being undertaken in Udaipur and cited measures to promote tourism, introduce e-buses and create employment opportunities.
The chief minister also accused the Congress of making “appeasement” the basis of its politics, while claiming that his government had adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption.
He appealed to voters to elect BJP candidates in all wards and said the civic polls would determine the future direction of Udaipur’s development.
Later, Sharma held a roadshow in Bhilwara in support of BJP candidates. The roadshow began from Doodhadhari Gopal temple, where people gathered to welcome him with flowers.
Before the event, Sharma offered prayers at the Radha-Krishna and Charbhuja temples and prayed for Rajasthan’s prosperity.
