Dehradun, Apr 30 (PTI) Rain and hailstorm lashed several parts of Uttarakhand on Thursday while the upper reaches of Pithoragarh district received fresh snowfall, officials at the meteorological centre here said.
Mussoorie recorded 52.3 mm of rainfall between 8.30 am and 7.30 pm. The popular hill station also witnessed a hailstorm during this period.
In the Kumaon region, Jainti in Almora district recorded 31.5 mm of rainfall, while Satpuli registered 29 mm. Champawat district’s Pati and Lohaghat areas recorded 21.5 mm of rain each.
Officials said final figures may vary by 4-5 mm as downpours continued in certain pockets after the evening briefing.
In the Garhwal division, Tehri recorded 13 mm of rain, and Dehradun’s Mukhampur area received 7.9 mm.
On Friday, isolated places in the hilly districts are likely to witness very light rain and snowfall at altitudes of 4,200 metres and above.
An alert for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph has been issued for these areas. The plains are expected to remain dry on Friday.
While maximum temperatures remained appreciably below normal during the past 24 hours, they are likely to rise by 3-5 degrees Celsius across the state during the next 2-3 days.
