Ahmedabad, Jul 24 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will address newly-appointed presidents of the party’s district units in Gujarat and interact with members of cooperative dairy unions during his day-long visit to the state on July 26, a functionary said on Thursday.

In view of the assembly elections in 2027, the Gujarat Congress has organised a three-day training camp for newly-appointed presidents of District Congress Committees at a resort in Anand city, said state party spokesperson Manish Doshi.

“The training camp for District Congress Committee presidents will be held on July 26, 27, and 28. Rahul Gandhi will address the inaugural session at around 11am on July 26. This camp has been organised with an aim to prepare a road map for our ‘Mission 2027’,” he said.

Later in the day, at around 3 pm, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha will hold a discussion with cooperative sector leaders and dairy farmers who are members of various cooperative milk unions or dairies in Gujarat, informed Doshi.

This interaction is being held in the backdrop of a recent protest staged by dairy farmers outside Sabar Dairy in Himmatnagar town of north Gujarat over the issue of milk procurement prices.

Sabar Dairy is affiliated with the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets its products under Amul brand name.

The state Congress spokesman alleged Gujarat’s cooperative sector has been “ruined” by the ruling BJP during its long stint in power.

“Gujarat’s cooperative model was once the identity of the state and it provided leadership to the entire country. But, that model has been ruined under the BJP rule. Gandhi will interact with members and leaders of these milk unions to understand the issues they are facing and what can be done to uproot corruption in these cooperative entities,” noted Doshi.
