Purnea, Nov 4 (PTI) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of repeatedly raising allegations of “vote theft” after electoral defeats, claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was winning people’s hearts and securing their support.
Sarma was speaking ahead of the ‘Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao’ foot march in Bihar’s Purnea district, organised as part of the BJP’s nationwide campaign against opposition’s allegations of electoral irregularities and discrepancies in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Describing Gandhi as a “model of a defeated politician who drew inspiration from Nepal and Bangladesh,” Sarma alleged that the Congress leader continued to raise questions over Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and the SIR exercise after losing elections.
“Rahul Gandhi has become a model of a defeated politician. He has made a century in terms of losing elections, and each time, he comes complaining about EVMs and SIR in frustration. He should instead understand that people are gradually rejecting him and he will never win elections in India,” Sarma said.
The Assam chief minister also made a sarcastic remark that he would airlift Gandhi to Bangladesh in a parachute, where he could contest and win elections.
Sarma further criticised Gandhi over his positions on the Ram temple in Ayodhya, the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and the abrogation of Article 370.
“Rahul Gandhi did not go to Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, and did not support the Uniform Civil Code and abrogation of Article 370. Will Sanatanis ever vote for him? As long as there is Sanatan in India, no one can defeat BJP and Narendra Modi,” he said.
He challenged Gandhi and his sister, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, to resign from Parliament if they believed that elections were being rigged, arguing that they too had been elected through the same electoral process.
“Rahul Gandhi keeps levelling allegations of vote chori. Little does he realise that what is ongoing in the country is dil chori (winning over of hearts). Through the process of SIR, names of Baburs and Aurangzebs have been cut. I would insist that the process should not end at deleting their names from electoral rolls, but they should be rather thrown out of the country,” Sarma said.
He was apparently referring to alleged illegal immigrants from neighbouring countries.
Sarma claimed that voters had chosen Modi’s “Ram model” over Gandhi’s “Pappu model”.
“If it was within his powers, Rahul Gandhi would have constructed Babri mosques all over India, but people have now become aware. He should learn from Modi ji, who constructed the Ram Mandir. If Congress had built the Ram Mandir, people would have voted for them as well,” he said.
The Assam chief minister also targeted Gandhi over his efforts to mobilise young voters, saying the 57-year-old Congress leader was no longer a youth and was only three years away from becoming a senior citizen.
During the foot march, Sarma told reporters that Gandhi was a “madman” who repeatedly raised slogans of vote theft after electoral defeats.
“Today we are holding this padayatra to remove anarchy from India. People are with Modi,” he said.
Targeting the Congress’s recently held mock Parliament, Sarma said Gandhi might become the prime minister in a mock Parliament organised at the residence of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, but Modi would continue to lead the government in the real Parliament.
He urged people not to fall into Gandhi’s “trap” and instead support Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, claiming that he was taking forward the state’s development.
“I also want people to understand the demographic change in Bihar’s Seemanchal region. People need to stay with Modi ji. Rahul Gandhi will keep losing. BJP will keep winning, and society will keep improving,” he said.
The event was also attended by Bihar Minister for Revenue and Land Reforms Dilip Jaiswal and Bihar Minister for Disaster Management Ratnesh Sada, among other local NDA leaders. PTI CORR SUK MNB
