Chandigarh, Aug 2 (PTI) Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi has directed the Amritsar Police Commissioner to appear in person after a woman claimed inaction on her harassment complaint.

A spokesperson of the Commission on Saturday said Parminder Kaur, a resident of Shahrwar Gate in Amritsar, filed a written complaint on March 17 alleging that an individual was harassing her by using caste-based slurs, uttering obscene words when she leaves for work, and making videos.

The commission sought a report from the Director, Bureau of Investigation, Punjab, but no appropriate action has been taken against the accused to date, said the spokesperson.

After reviewing the matter, the chairman directed Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar to appear in person on August 4 and submit a report regarding the complaint.

In another matter, the Commission asked Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police Harmandeep Singh Hans to appear in person in connection with the hearing of a pending case.

The spokesperson said that Sandeep Kaur, Assistant Director, Forensic Science Laboratory in Mohali had submitted a written complaint on January 20, alleging that her office head had made casteist remarks against her.

The district attorney has also recommended the registration of a case, but no action has been taken by the police so far.

The SSP has been asked to appear before the Commission on August 4, said the spokesperson. PTI CHS RT RT
