Chandigarh, Jul 5 (PTI) Sirsa in Haryana and Bathinda in Punjab on Sunday reeled under the hot weather, recording day temperatures over 40 degrees Celsius as sultry weather prevailed at several places in the two states.
Sirsa recorded a maximum temperature of 40.8 degrees Celsius while Bathinda registered a high of 40.3 degrees Celsius, the met said, adding that Ambala, Hisar, and Fatehabad also experienced the hot weather, recording respective maximums of 39.2 degrees, 38.9 degrees and 36.8 degrees Celsius.
Karnal recorded a high of 34.8 degrees Celsius.
Chandigarh — the common capital of the two states — with the maximum temperature of 37.9 degrees Celsius, also witnessed sultry weather.
In Punjab, Patiala recorded a maximum of 37.2 degrees Celsius while Amritsar registered a high of 35.9 degrees Celsius.
Gurdaspur recorded a high of 36 degrees Celsius while Mohali recorded a maximum of 37.1 degrees Celsius.
According to the met, the southwest monsoon had advanced into parts of Haryana and Punjab on July 1, with Gurugram and Karnal in Haryana and Ferozepur in Punjab receiving rainfall on Sunday.
The department issued a forecast on Sunday that conditions are favourable for further advance of the southwest monsoon into the remaining parts of Haryana and Punjab in the next three days. PTI SUN SHS
