Ludhiana, Aug 9 (PTI) The family of a 25-year-old man who was shot dead by a group of assailants here two days ago, held a protest on the Ludhiana-Delhi national highway on Sunday demanding immediate arrest of those accused in the killing, officials said.
Harjinder Singh was shot dead by a group of men on Friday night while he was returning home on a two-wheeler, with the entire incident caught on a CCTV camera.
Family members and acquaintances of the deceased blocked a stretch of the national highway near Basti Jodhewal, refusing to cremate the body until the accused were arrested.
Police teams and senior officials reached the spot and tried to pacify the protestors. The blockade was later lifted after officials assured that the accused will be arrested at the earliest.
CCTV footage of the Friday night murder shows SUV-borne attackers intercepting the victim’s motorcycle and assaulting him with iron rods before unloading at least five bullets into his upper body — killing him on the spot.
Police have registered a case at Tibba police station against six people, naming Ravi, Sunny, Mohit and Bheenu, among others.
Tibba Station House Officer Gaganpreet Singh said police suspect old rivalry is behind the killing. PTI COR CHS SMV ARB ARB
