Hoshiarpur, Apr 15 (PTI) Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday slammed the Shiromani Akali Dal, alleging that the leaders’ “sins” are “unpardonable” and that people will never forgive their “misdeeds”.

While addressing a gathering after inaugurating development projects worth Rs 150 crore in Tanda Urmur, he said, “For 70 years, the Tanda Urmur area suffered due to political discrimination because previous governments failed to carry out development works.” “Our government has taken several path-breaking initiatives to ensure progress and prosperity for its people. The Punjab government is committed to the holistic development of every corner of the state,” he said.

Targeting rival political leaders, Mann said, “These opportunist leaders are baffled as people are not giving them any sort of response. Their agenda is confined to the welfare of their families rather than that of the people. The Akalis and Congress want to divide people.” “Akali Dal is guilty of disrespecting Sri Guru Sahib ji. Voting for them means endorsing that disrespect. The sins of these leaders are unpardonable, and people will never forgive them,” he said.

Without naming anyone, Mann said, “Those responsible for the sacrilege appeared before Sri Akal Takht Sahib and admitted their crime in full public view. However, because it didn’t suit their political ambitions, they took a U-turn after some time and claimed some people were playing into the hands of central agencies to defame them. The entire state knows the real face of these leaders who have always misled the people with their political gimmicks.” He said, “Rather than empowering people by making them officers through quality education, the Akalis just ensured that the students of the poor don’t study and remained confined to the ‘Atta Dal’ scheme only.” Lashing out at Congress, Mann said, “In Congress, every leader is aspiring to become the head of the state. They have more chief ministers than ordinary workers to work in the polls. The Congress party is a divided house that will collapse due to its infighting.” Mann said his government is working for the people and has provided free electricity to 90 per cent of households, jobs to over 65,000 government youth without corruption, improved roads, closed toll plazas saving Rs 70 lakh daily, and is building infrastructure.

“When the AAP government assumed charge, only 22 per cent of canal water was being used for irrigation. Today, 71 per cent of canal water is being used, and it will increase to 90 per cent by the coming paddy season,” he said.

The chief minister said projects worth Rs 141.88 crore for the renovation of the area’s link roads have been dedicated to the people of Hoshiarpur.

“A bridge will be constructed for Rs 2.39 crore for the convenience of the congregation heading to Gurdwara Rampur Kheda Sahib. In a major expansion of health facilities, ‘Health Wellness Centres are being established in 6 villages at Rs 3.30 crore, and an ‘Urban Primary Health Centre is being set up in Garhdiwala at Rs 1.35 crore,” he said.
