Chandigarh, Apr 26 (PTI) AAP leaders and workers on Sunday held protests at several places across Punjab against seven Rajya Sabha MPs who quit the party and joined the BJP.

The protesters also burnt effigies of the Rajya Sabha members to express their anger against the defection, besides raising slogans against them.

Protests took place in several locations, including Dera Bassi and Kharar in Mohali, Gurdaspur, Jalandhar, Pathankot, Bathinda, and Amritsar.

Speaking to reporters in Jandiala Guru in Amritsar, Punjab minister Harbhajan Singh slammed these Rajya Sabha MPs for switching sides and accused them of betraying the people of Punjab.

Singh said these MPs were sent to the Upper House for raising the issues of Punjab. “But it is a big shame that they did not raise any issue of Punjab for which they were sent there. Instead, they joined the BJP,” said Singh.

“They have committed a disgusting act with the people of Punjab who will not forgive them,” said the minister.

To a question, Singh said the party is united.

On Friday, the Aam Aadmi Party suffered a jolt when seven of its 10 Rajya Sabha MPs — Raghav Chadha, Ashok Mittal, Sandeep Pathak, Harbhajan Singh, Rajendra Gupta, Vikramjit Sahney and Swati Maliwal — quit and merged with the BJP, alleging that the party had strayed from its principles, values and core morals.
