Protesting for separate reservation, Mali community delegation meets OBC commission in Jaipur

Jaipur, May 1 (PTI) A Mali community delegation Monday met the OBC Commission here and apprised it about their socioeconomic status to press for their demand of a separate 12 per cent reservation in education and government jobs.

Even as the 21-member delegation presented its case before the Commission, the protestors from their community continued their agitation and blocked the Jaipur-Agra National Highway for the 11th consecutive day.

Mobile internet service in the affected areas remained suspended.

A separate delegation of the community recently met Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot in Jaipur where he assured them to get a survey done by the OBC commission. The community members said they will end the agitation when the survey begins.

“After the talks held with the chief minister, he had written to the OBC Commission to take up the matter. Today, a meeting with delegation and the commission members is being held with a charter of demands,” D.K Kushwah, a community spokesperson, said on Monday.

They Mali community are under the OBC category at present and are demanding a separate 12 percent reservation. The Sainis, Malis, Kushwahas, Shakyas and Mauryas belong to the community. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is also from the same community.

During the protest, a man had committed suicide after which the agitators demanded compensation and a job for his family. This demand has also been included it the charter of their demands. PTI AG TIR
