Ranchi, Nov 1 (PTI) The BJP’s Jharkhand MLA Neera Yadav on Sunday alleged that “protectors have turned predators” under the patronisation of the Hemant Soren government, after a woman was allegedly raped inside a police station in Seraikela-Kharsawan district.

She claimed more than 10,113 incidents of rape and over 10,000 murders and abductions have occurred between 2020 and 2024. The post of women’s commission chairperson has been lying vacant for seven years, the MLA claimed.

“No one is safe in the state, especially women. The incident inside the Gamharia police station is very shameful. Protectors turned into predators, and all this is happening because the Hemant Soren government is patronising criminals,” Yadav said.

A constable was arrested after a woman accused him of raping her inside the Gamharia police station in Jharkhand’s Seraikela-Kharswan district, where she had gone to lodge a complaint on the night of October 29. Five police personnel, including the officer-in-charge of the police station, were suspended for dereliction of duty.

Yadav said, “The state government has failed to provide employment, failed to stop corruption, and now its police have failed to ensure the security of the woman inside the police station.”

“Chief Minister Hemant Soren should tell the people of the state: where should our mothers, sisters and daughters go when they are not safe even inside a police station?” she posed.

The MLA said the woman went to the Gamharia police station seeking protection, but it is shameful that she was raped inside the police station.

“The BJP demands that the government immediately take cognisance of the incident, conduct an impartial probe and take strict action against those involved. If the government cannot do this, Chief Minister Hemant Soren should resign,” she said. PTI RPS RPS NSD
