Jabalpur, May 9 (PTI) The authorities seized a prohibited Global Positioning System (GPS) tracker device from a US national at Dumna Airport in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur, police said on Friday.

Carrying and using the GPS tracker device is prohibited during air travel in India, City Superintendent of Police (Ranjhi) Santosh Kumar Sahu told PTI.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) seized the device under provisions of the Telecommunication Act and handed it over to the Khamaria police, he said.

“Angela K Parinar (62), a resident of Kansas, USA, was carrying a GPS tracker device for her travel from Jabalpur to Delhi,” Dumna Airport director RR Pandey told PTI.

He said the CISF found the device in the woman’s hand luggage during a routine check before boarding on Thursday.

The official said when asked about the device, the woman said she carried it during her journeys to share her location with family due to her old age.

He added that the passenger was allowed to board the plane after the seizure.
