New Delhi, Sep 26 (PTI) The All India Professionals’ Congress (AIPC) on Saturday announced the second batch of the Dr Manmohan Singh Fellows Programme, under which it would train 100 professionals.
This year’s fellowship, under the theme “From Professional Excellence to Political Impact”, was launched on former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s 94th birthday.
In the first batch, the Congress party had 50 fellows.
The outgoing AIPC chairman and Rajya Sabha MP Praveen Chakravarty and the newly appointed AIPC chairman Madhu Yaskhi Goud said the number of fellows to be inducted into the fellowship programme this year has been scaled to 100 following instructions from party chief Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi.
Chakravarty said the fellowship recognises the great legacy of Dr Manmohan Singh, who undoubtedly was India’s most consequential and significant professional-turned-political leader.
He said the idea was to open a path for professionals who care for a progressive, liberal country and want to do something for it.
Goud said that like the first batch, this batch would also comprise highly talented people who would bring their expertise to politics, policy-making and nation-building.
Under the programme, the Congress is providing an opportunity for professionals who want to be part of the change and build an inclusive India, Goud said, urging them to join the programme and work to protect the Republic and its institutions. PTI SKC RUK
