Mumbai: Mumbai police say they apprehended the prime accused in the attack on actor Saif Ali Khan in the early hours of Sunday from Thane. The accused, 30-year-old Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, is suspected by the Mumbai police to be of Bangladeshi origin. He allegedly entered India illegally and was using multiple aliases.

“There is primary evidence that the accused is Bangladeshi. He doesn’t have valid Indian documents. So, appropriate sections will be added to the charge,” Dixit Gedam, deputy commissioner of police (Zone 9), told the media. The police further said that according to the preliminary inquiry, this was the accused’s first time entering Khan’s house.

Gedam said that the accused came to Mumbai about five to six months ago and had been living in the vicinity of Mumbai before returning to the city approximately 15 days ago.

Currently, he was using the name Vijay Das and was working with a housekeeping agency. Some of the statements and items seized from him raise suspicion that he could be a Bangladeshi migrant, Gedam said.

Following his detention, Shehzad was presented before the Bandra Holiday Court in Mumbai which granted the police five-day custody. Shehzad’s advocate Sandeep Shekhane told the media that the court has asked the police to submit a report within five days. “Police have no proof he is a Bangladeshi. They said he came here six months ago, it’s a wrong statement. He has been living here for more than seven years. His family is in Mumbai … this is a clear-cut violation of 43A. No proper investigation has been done…”

“They [police] changed the angle of the case just because he is Bangladeshi… Earlier, he was in Bangladesh but he has been living here for many years now,” added Shekhane.

Actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked at his residence in Bandra on 16 January, where he was stabbed multiple times. The actor sustained serious injuries to his back and neck but is out of danger and recuperating at Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital. The actor resides on the 11th floor of an apartment building in Bandra with his wife, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, their two sons, Taimur and Jehangir (also known as Jeh), and their house staff.

  1. The sad and disappointing part is that across all social media platforms misinformation is being spread by the usual suspects blaming Hindus for this attack.
I personally came across Twitter (X) posts and WhatsApp messages circulated by the Left-liberal cabal accusing the RSS/BJP/Hindus of having orchestrated this heinous attack.

  2. The accused simply had to be from the religion of peace. The Pakistani clown Fawad Choudhary should note the fact and accept that the “religion of peace” is the one at fault.
Also, Mamata Banerjee can now rest assured, knowing fully well that the threats to Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan also stems from illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, not from Sanatani Hindus.
