Ranchi, Jun 24 (PTI) Jharkhand’s Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) Sanjeev Kumar on Wednesday stressed the need for effective surveillance to curb wildlife trafficking, saying prevention of such crimes is among the top priorities of the state.
Chairing a meeting of Inter-Agency Coordination Committee of the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (Central Region) at the Forest Department headquarters here, Kumar emphasised the need for better coordination among various agencies to prevent wildlife crimes.
He highlighted the importance of nominating nodal officers in each department, reviewing cases, strengthening online case management, conducting financial investigations, providing prosecution support, and updating profiles of wildlife offenders.
“Effective surveillance should be established to curb the wildlife trafficking through air, rail, and road routes, as well as through postal and courier services,” he said.
He stressed the need for developing a robust mechanism to ensure the timely exchange of information related to wildlife crimes among all agencies concerned.
Additional Director at Wildlife Crime Control Bureau, New Delhi, Ruchika Rishi, emphasised that agencies such as the Forest Department, Enforcement Directorate (ED), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), CISF and police must work together to ensure the protection of wildlife.
She suggested that inter-departmental meetings should be conducted regularly to strengthen investigation and prosecution in wildlife crime cases. PTI SAN SAN ACD
