New Delhi, Oct 30 (PTI) The new National Education Policy (NEP) is India’s most comprehensive and forward-looking education reform and now calls for focused execution and effective implementation after years of deliberation, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said on Thursday.
“India’s most comprehensive and forward-looking education reform — NEP — now calls for focused execution and effective implementation after years of deliberation,” he said.
The minister made the comments at the inauguration of the new academic building of the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA).
Joshi also launched the Indian Knowledge System Panchatantra Pariyojana and said it is a step towards integrating the country’s rich civilisational heritage with education.
“India’s education ecosystem is advancing through NEP, blending modern innovation with the timeless wisdom of Bharatiya knowledge traditions,” Joshi said at the event.
“The IKS Panchatantra Pariyojana is a significant step towards integrating India’s rich civilisational heritage into education, nurturing values, leadership, critical thinking and responsible citizenship among young learners,” he added.
The project uses the ancient animal fables of the Panchatantra to nurture essential life skills in young learners, specifically focusing on leadership, critical thinking, moral values and responsible citizenship.
The Minister further underscored the importance of strengthening institutional infrastructure, stating, “As the Sanskrit saying goes, ‘Shariramadyam khalu dharma sadhanam’ — a healthy body is essential for performing one’s duties. Similarly, strong infrastructure is essential for carrying out important work effectively.
Joshi highlighted NIEPA’s role in monitoring the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, identifying implementation challenges and working closely with state governments to address them. He also stressed the importance of transitioning from rote learning to conceptual understanding, as envisaged under NEP 2020.
The minister referred to initiatives such as the PM Vidyalaxmi Scheme, which facilitated Rs 60,000 crores in soft loans for higher education, and digital learning platforms such as SWAYAM and DIKSHA.
He noted that SWAYAM had expanded access to quality digital learning and educational resources to learners across the country. Joshi reiterated the importance of equipping young people with quality education and relevant skills to meet national and global needs, enabling India to contribute more to the welfare of the world.
