Mumbai, Jul 25 (PTI) Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) chief Prakash Ambedkar on Saturday claimed Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation neither reflected regret over the alleged deaths of students by suicide due to the NEET exam paper leak nor promised action on police personnel accused of using force against protesting youths.
The language of the resignation letter suggests that Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not ask for his resignation, he said.
“It appears Pradhan resigned on his own. The letter talks about anti-social elements infiltrating the agitation, but there is no regret over the 22 youths who died by suicide due to his inefficiency. There is no mention of police lathi-charge or any action against policemen for their alleged brutality,” Ambedkar told reporters.
Claiming that the tone of the resignation letter indicated Pradhan had stepped down voluntarily, Ambedkar also alleged the development appeared to point towards internal differences within the ruling establishment.
“I personally feel the way Pradhan resigned, it seems he resigned on his own. There must be some infighting and it has surfaced like this,” he claimed.
The resignation letter offered no assurance on improving the education system or reversing the centralisation of education, the VBA leader further claimed.
“Earlier, education was a state subject, but now it has been centralised. This has been done only for money-making. Will the Union government roll back the centralisation of the education sector?” he asked.
He also questioned whether the Union government would announce compensation for students who allegedly died by suicide and whether the prime minister would express regret over the deaths.
Ambedkar said the VBA would continue to support future decisions taken by Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke and the students associated with the agitation.
The CJP on Saturday withdrew its agitation over the NEET issue after the government accepted all demands of the outfit, including the resignation of Pradhan and withdrawal of FIRs against protesters.
