Policeman fires in Bihar village upon being caught at ‘paramour’s’ house; one dead, 3 injured

Stay updated with ThePrint:

Madhubani (Bihar), Nov 3 (PTI) An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police in Bihar allegedly opened fire after being caught inside the house of his alleged paramour in a village in Madhubani district, killing one person and leaving three others injured, before fleeing the spot.

According to Yogendra Kumar, the Senior Superintendent of Police of Madhubani, the incident took place early Tuesday when Chandra Mohan Singh, the ASI, posted at an outpost in Babubarahi, was spotted inside the house in Balirajgarh village.

“While trying to escape, the ASI fired several rounds from his service pistol. Local villager Ashok Yadav (50) was killed on the spot while three others are undergoing treatment for bullet injuries,” said the SSP.

Hours later, angry villagers staged a demonstration by placing the body of Yadav on the roadside. They were pacified by District Magistrate Anand Sharma, who reached the spot along with the SSP.

Sharma told the villagers that Singh has been suspended “with immediate effect” and five teams had been set up to arrest him.

A reward of Rs 25,000 has also been announced for anyone providing information about the absconding ASI.

A female member of Yadav’s family broke down with her head on the DM’s shoulder even as another woman, who was carrying a slipper in her hand, tried to grab Sharma by the collar, sending police personnel and local officials into a tizzy.

Video clips of the unsavoury incident have gone viral on social media.

Meanwhile, the district administration issued a statement urging people to maintain peace and promising “speedy justice and all possible help” to the bereaved family. PTI CORR PKD NAC NN
