Pune, Nov 2 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate Pune Metro Rail Line 3 connecting Shivajinagar to Hinjewadi and lay the foundation stone for expansion projects of the network’s Phase-II on November 3, MahaMetro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar said on Monday.

The ground event will take place at 10:30 am at the badminton court in the Balewadi sports complex in the presence of the Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar, local MPs, MLAs, the Pune Mayor and other dignitaries.

Modi will inaugurate Pune Metro’s Line 3 (Pink Line) and lay the foundation stone of four new metro corridors under Phase-II, involving a total investment of around Rs 21,800 crore, the PMO said on Monday.

He will inaugurate the 23-km-long Pink Line, built at a cost of over Rs 8,300 crore, through video conferencing at 12.30 pm. The corridor will connect Maan to the District Court Metro station, providing direct metro connectivity between the Hinjewadi IT hub and Shivajinagar, the PMO statement added.

Ahead of the event, PM Modi highlighted the features of the new Pink Line in a post on X, calling it a significant boost to ‘Ease of Living’ for Pune.

“What makes Pune Metro’s new Pink Line so special? 23 km connecting Hinjewadi’s IT hub with Shivajinagar. Operated by women. Almost a third of the electricity needs planned from solar energy. Tomorrow, this Rs 8,300 crore infra enhancement will be inaugurated!” the Prime Minister said.

Detailing the upcoming infrastructure works, Hardikar said the Phase 2 expansion includes extending the existing Line 2 on both the eastern and western corridors. The 12-km extension, valued at over Rs 3,600 crore, will feature 13 stations, connecting Vanaz to Chandni Chowk in the west and Ramwadi to Vitthalwadi in Wagholi on the east.

Additionally, a key east-west corridor Line 4 will be taken up to enhance urban connectivity across the city. Spanning approximately 31 kilometres, Line 4 will originate at Khadakwasla and pass through Sinhagad Road, Swargate, Shankarshet Road, Hadapsar, and Magarpatta Road before terminating at Kharadi Bypass.

The project also includes a spur line (Line 4A) branching out from Manikbag and connecting to the SNDT station at Nal Stop via Warje and Karve Road.

The total estimated cost of the Line 4 and 4A projects stands at around Rs 13,500 crore. The entire network will be executed by MahaMetro over the next four-and-half years. PTI COR SPK BNM
