New Delhi: Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the second edition of the International Conference on Green Hydrogen (ICGH-2024) in Delhi via video message on 11 September, a PIB press release stated.
The Prime Minister began by emphasizing India’s commitment to tackling climate change and promoting green hydrogen as a sustainable solution. He highlighted the country’s efforts in the field of renewable energy and the development of green hydrogen. He mentioned that India was the first country to meet its commitments under the Paris Agreement on green energy, and the country was committed to strengthening its existing solutions while also exploring new and innovative approaches. Green hydrogen, he said, was a breakthrough that had the potential to decarbonize hard-to-electrify sectors like refineries, fertilizers, steel, and heavy-duty transportation.
The Prime Minister outlined ambitious targets for the National Green Hydrogen Mission, 2023-2030. He said that the government was committed to attracting Rs 8 lakh crore in investments and generating 6 lakh jobs in the green hydrogen sector. The National Green Hydrogen Mission was a critical step toward achieving India’s goal of becoming a global leader in green hydrogen. He said that the mission would drive innovation, build infrastructure, stimulate industry growth, and attract investment in the green hydrogen sector.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of research and development in promoting green hydrogen technology. He said that innovative research and technological advancements were crucial for making green hydrogen affordable and scalable. He called for continued support for R&D in order to overcome the challenges and harness the full potential of green hydrogen.
