PM Modi meets Thai PM Shinawatra, discusses regional cooperation

Leaders focus on strengthening ties through BIMSTEC, India's 'Act East' policy.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on the sidelines of the East Asia Summit in Vientiane Friday. This was the first meeting between the two leaders, a PIb release stated.

During the meeting, PM Modi congratulated PM Shinawatra on assuming office and she reciprocated by congratulating him on his historic third term. The two leaders discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation in various areas, including sub-regional, regional, and multilateral fora. They specifically mentioned enhancing regional cooperation through BIMSTEC.

India’s relations with Thailand are a key part of India’s ‘Act East’ policy, which is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, and India’s Vision of the Indo-Pacific.
