PM Modi lauds CRPF for recording zero casualties in 12 consecutive months

Stay updated with ThePrint:

New Delhi, Nov 3 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday lauded the CRPF, the country’s lead internal security force, for recording no casualties in 12 consecutive months – the first time since Independence.

“A zero speaks volumes,” he said in a post on X.

The prime minister’s social media post carried a graphic of zero along with three personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force pointing guns towards three different directions.

“Zero CRPF casualties in 12 consecutive months. For the first time in 47 years,” Modi said.

The CRPF has said the achievement has been made despite “sustained” and “intensified” operations across various combat theatres where the paramilitary force is deployed.

A senior CRPF officer said that it was “such a satisfying development”.

The CRPF, with about 3.25 lakh personnel, is the mainstay for various internal security duties across the country including three main theatres: anti-Naxal tasks, anti-terrorist operations in Jammu and Kashmir and counter-insurgency duties in the northeastern states.

“The CRPF troops have been leading internal security duties across many violent regions of the country, which unfortunately resulted in high fatal casualty figures over the last many years.

“Not losing even a single jawan or officer in operations reflects the improving security situation and the force learning from its mistakes,” the officer said.

The force was raised in 1939 under British rule. It was renamed CRPF two years after Independence in 1949. According to official data, 2,270 of its jawans and officers have laid down their lives in the line of duty till now. PTI ACB RT
