Shimla, Aug 7 (PTI) BJP MLA Sudhir Sharma on Friday criticised Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, alleging that officers registering fake FIRs against saffron party leaders are being given “plum postings” while those maintaining law and order are being “victimised with transfers”.
Instead of strengthening law and order and providing a safe and secure environment, the state government has ordered a reshuffle in the police department to victimise and pressurise law-abiding officers, he alleged in a statement.
The government’s focus is on settling political scores by registering cases against political opponents and sheltering policemen who target opposition leaders, he said.
Referring to the recent transfers of constables and assistant sub-inspectors in Kangra district, Sharma said it sends a clear message that police officers working under government pressure and registering false cases on opposition leaders would be rewarded, while officers acting impartially would face transfers.
“Police should be totally free from political pressure. However, politically motivated cases were registered against me, former MLAs Hoshiyar Singh, Ashish Sharma, and other BJP leaders and workers in the recent past,” Sharma said.
The BJP respects the police force, whose primary duty is maintenance of law and order, but would give a befitting reply in a democratic manner to those politicising the force, he cautioned. PTI BPL RUK RUK
