Gurugram, Jun 29 (PTI) A seven-year-old boy was injured after a heavy chunk of plaster unexpectedly collapsed from a balcony in a housing society located in Sector 102, Gurugram, officials said on Monday.

The child was rushed to a nearby hospital, where his condition is reported to be stable, they said.

Following the incident, residents of the society accused the builder and the maintenance agency of negligence, and police were called to the scene in the ensuing commotion. Residents argued that despite paying maintenance charges, they were not safe.

According to eyewitnesses, plaster from the balcony of a second-floor flat suddenly came off. The debris fell on Nikunj (7), who lives in the ground-floor flat of the building. He was playing outside at the time of the incident.

Residents claimed that plaster from balconies and walls in the society has fallen off several times in the past. Complaints were lodged with the builder and the maintenance agency on multiple occasions, yet no permanent solution was implemented, they alleged, flagging the “disregard” for the residents’ safety.

Nikunj’s family said that his life was saved by a stroke of luck, and they have filed a police complaint against the builder and the maintenance agency.

Monica, vice president of the Resident Welfare Association (RWA), said that despite spending crores of rupees to purchase their flats, the residents’ lives are at risk.

“The builder and the maintenance agency have been informed multiple times about the issues facing the society. We demand that the society be properly maintained so that such incidents can be prevented in the future,” she said. PTI COR PRK
