New Delhi: Union Commerce & Industry Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated the 43rd India International Trade Fair at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi Thursday. The fair, organized by the India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO), runs from November 14-27, 2024, and focuses on India’s vision of becoming a self-reliant nation by 2047, themed “Viksit Bharat @2047.” This theme, echoing Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s resolution to dedicate every decision of the Government to the goal of Viksit Bharat, highlights India’s ambition to become a prosperous and resilient nation by 2047, a PIB press release stated.

During his inauguration speech, Goyal highlighted the government’s plans to expand the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) into a world-class agency, aiming to position India as a leading MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) destination. He also announced plans to expand MICE facilities to cities like Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai, Lucknow, Varanasi, and Noida.

According to the press release, Goyal emphasized the need to go from local to global, facilitating convergence of buyers and sellers by bringing in international exhibitors to India for consumer choice. He also stated that exhibitions in India should be a one-stop shop for the world.

Emphasizing the importance of digital transactions, the Minister stated that the government is exploring options to set up kiosks at trade fairs for faster payments and is considering revenue-sharing models with industries participating in events like IITF. He urged ITPO to explore virtual fairs for products where physical presence is not crucial.
