Lucknow, Jul 1 (PTI) Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday said the party’s “PDA” movement was aimed at securing the rights, dignity and prosperity of the country’s “95 per cent population” that had remained exploited and deprived for generations.

Yadav made the remarks in a post on X while thanking Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his birthday wishes.

“Many thanks to Rahul Gandhi ji for his birthday wishes! Everyone who stands with us in bringing the rule of social justice is welcome. We have to reaffirm our pledge of unity every time and expose those who, overtly or covertly, benefit communal forces,” Yadav said.

Describing the “PDA” (Pichhde, Dalit and Alpsankhyak) initiative as more than a political strategy, the former chief minister said, “PDA rises far above politics. It is a movement for the rights, dignity, prosperity and progress of the 95 per cent of the country’s population that has remained exploited, deprived and poor in every society for centuries.” “The people of PDA are bound together by the common thread of suffering and have remained oppressed, distressed and humiliated for generations because of the oppression and dominance of the traditional 5 per cent privileged classes. Love, compassion and a sense of belonging are the fundamental basis of PDA’s unity,” he added.

“Everyone who has a heart filled with compassion and humanity is a part of PDA,” Yadav said.

Earlier in the day, Gandhi greeted Yadav on his 53rd birthday.

“Many happy returns of the day, @yadavakhilesh ji. Together, we will fulfil the resolve for social justice through the participation of the PDA. Best wishes for good health and a happy life,” the Congress leader said in a post on X in Hindi. PTI KIS DIV DIV
