Patna, May 9 (PTI) A conglomerate of lawyers’ organisations in the Patna High Court has urged members of the bar to abstain from judicial work on May 11 to voice their anguish against the alleged “uncouth” and “uncharitable” behaviour of the judges who often ended up “hitting below the belt”.

A statement to this effect was issued on Friday by the Coordination Committee of Three Associations of the Patna High Court.

The statement, signed by office bearers of the Bar Association, Lawyers’ Association and Advocates’ Association, has cited a notice issued by the Registrar General on May 7.

While the statement did not divulge further, sources in the associations said the notice was meant to restrict entry of lawyers’ vehicle in the high court premises.

Nonetheless, the statement has alleged that the notice reflected the judges’ “feelings towards the bar”.

“The behaviour of the judges towards lawyers, during court proceedings, has been uncharitable, uncouth, often abusive and insulting and (was) tantamount to hitting below the belt”, alleged the statement.

Even senior members of the bar are “afraid of appearing before some judges”, he said.

Accordingly, the coordination committee “unanimously resolves that the members of the bar be requested to abstain from their professional duties on 11.05.2026, from 10.30 am onwards”, added the statement. PTI CORR NAC BDC
