Palghar, Sep 10 (PTI) A court has extended the police custody of suspended Shiv Sena functionary Rahul Gharat till September 13 in connection with the assault on staffers at the Relief Hospital in Palghar.
The court also rejected the interim anticipatory bail application submitted in the case by three accused.
Violence broke out at the hospital over a dispute concerning billing, diagnostic procedures, and the discharge of injured ‘govindas’ who were undergoing treatment following Dahi Handi celebrations.
CCTV footage showed a mob assaulting a receptionist, following which a case was registered against 17 persons, including Gharat, Shiv Sena district chief Kundan Sankhe, and Rohit Gavit, who is the son of local MLA Rajendra Gavit.
Following Gharat’s surrender and subsequent arrest, he was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class.
The prosecution pressed for an extension of Gharat’s custody to conduct a thorough investigation, locate remaining co-accused individuals, and gather key physical and digital evidence. PTI COR BNM
