Noida, Oct 10 (PTI) The Food Safety and Drug Administration department has seized around 3,750 kg of spices and other materials from a manufacturing unit in Greater Noida West and collected 13 samples for testing over suspected adulteration ahead of the Navratri festival, officials said on Saturday.
The raid was conducted at Dharmesh Industries in Itahera village, under the Bisrakh police station limits, late Friday evening as part of a crackdown on food adulteration on the district magistrate’s directions, they said.
Assistant Commissioner (Food-II) Sarvesh Mishra said the team recovered large quantities of chilli, turmeric and coriander powder, along with other ingredients allegedly used in spice manufacturing.
The seized material included 1,050 kg of turmeric powder, 525 kg of chilli powder, 315 kg of coriander powder, 125 kg of chilli seeds, 360 kg of coriander pieces, 140 kg of whole turmeric and 600 kg of coriander stalk husk, they said.
The team also found 180 kg of other material containing chilli seeds, 100 kg of soya nuggets, 300 kg of whole chillies, 60 kg of mustard oil, and two kg each of yellow and red colourants, they added.
The department collected 13 samples, including those of the yellow and red colourants and husk, for laboratory testing. The remaining material, weighing around 3,759 kg, was seized, they said.
An FIR has been registered against the persons concerned at the Bisrakh police station under relevant provisions of law. The department is also initiating action to cancel the factory’s licence, they added.
Mishra said inspections of food establishments would continue under the district magistrate’s directions to ensure that consumers receive food and beverages meeting prescribed standards during the festive season.
Samples would be collected for testing, and action would be taken wherever violations are detected, he added. PTI KIS SHS
