Shimla, Apr 30 (PTI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday said fundamental differences between the ideology of the Congress party and that of the BJP was highlighted by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi at a training camp of the party in Kangra district.

“Our service should not be driven only by political ambition but it also should be inspired by the genuine sentiments and aspirations of the people,” Gandhi told Congress district presidents from Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir.

Interacting with media at Kangra Airport, Sukhu said that Gandhi attended a training camp organised for Congress district presidents of three states in Himachal’s Kangra district and briefed them on the specific systemic changes that he envisions for the organisational structure.

Gandhi apprised the district presidents about various challenges the party is likely to face in the future as well as the international policies currently guiding the nation. He also engaged in direct dialogue with over 60 district presidents and issued necessary guidelines to them, he added.

Gandhi’s visit is expected to infuse energy in the state party cadre which has been reconstituted after 16 months ahead of panchayat and urban local bodies polls in May this year and the assembly polls slated for the end of 2027.

Sukhu said that one ideology is characterised by the willingness to sacrifice one’s life for the unity and integrity of the nation, whereas the other ideology actively works to divide the country.

Gandhi, who reached Kangra around 8 am and left by 3 pm, emphasised that while a district president may aspire to become a member of the Rajya Sabha or a member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), every party worker must dedicate themselves with utmost diligence to advancing the party’s operational agenda.

Replying to a question regarding municipal corporation elections, Sukhu said that the electorate determines the key issues, people cast their votes based on specific local concerns and by evaluating the performance of individual councillors.

According to party sources, sessions focusing on media strategy, effective use of social media, grassroots outreach and countering opposition narratives under the party’s ‘Organisation Building Programme’ were also held during the 10-day organisational training camp which concluded on Thursday.
