Gwalior (MP), Jul 19 (PTI) A 30-year-old woman was killed, and two others were injured after a retaining wall collapsed on them in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior city on Sunday, prompting the administration to order a probe into the structure’s design and construction quality.

The incident occurred in the hilly Guda-Gudi Ka Naka area of the city, an official said.

Heavy machinery was used to remove the debris, and rescue teams extricated the victims, one of whom died, and two others were rushed to a hospital, he said.

District collector Ruchika Chauhan, who reached the scene, directed officials of the district administration, municipal corporation and police to carry out relief and rescue operations.

The deceased was identified as Sapna Batham (30), who ran a tea stall in the locality. The injured, Rahul Jatav (40) and Betal Jatav (36), are undergoing treatment at a hospital, police said.

The administration sanctioned immediate financial assistance of Rs 10,000 each to the affected persons.

The collector, in a statement, said that she had directed the municipal commissioner to conduct a technical inquiry into the wall’s design, construction drawings and quality to ascertain the exact cause of the collapse.

“If the inquiry finds negligence at any level, responsibility will be fixed, and strict action will be taken against those concerned in accordance with the law,” she said. PTI COR LAL ARU
