Nagpur, Apr 19 (PTI) A 40-year-old man died of suffocation and seven others were injured after a cooking gas cylinder exploded, triggering a fire at a house in Nagpur on Sunday, police said.

The incident occurred around 6.30 am in the Bhaji Mandi area under the jurisdiction of Old Kamptee police station.

The wife of Atul, alias Bunty Dashrath Pantawane, was making tea when the LPG cylinder exploded, causing a fire that spread rapidly, an official said. “Pantawane got trapped inside a bedroom and died due to suffocation before help could reach him,” said senior inspector Prashant Jumde.

His wife and three children escaped safely, but seven persons suffered minor injuries while trying to control the fire. After being alerted, firefighters rushed to the spot and doused the flames, he said.

“The fire caused property loss of around Rs 5 lakh. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway,” said sub-inspector Milind Meshram. PTI COR NR
