Thane, Jul 24 (PTI) A 41-year-old on-duty traffic police constable died after he was knocked down by a hydra vehicle (crane truck) in Navi Mumbai on Thursday morning, an official said.

The constable, Bablu Patil, was on traffic regulation duty near Mahape bridge in the satellite city when a recklessly driven crane truck knocked him down at around 10.30 am, he said.

Patil died on the spot and his body was sent for post-mortem examination to a government hospital, informed the official.

An FIR under relevant provisions of the new legal code BNS and the Motor Vehicles Act was registered against the heavy vehicle’s driver, who was detained after the accident and sent for medical examination, he said.
