New Delhi: Three forged but identical recommendation letters from Directorate of Education (DoE), and disability certificates from Lok Nayak hospital, were submitted for admissions under the Children with Special Needs (CwSN) category at one of Delhi’s top schools, the Delhi Police said.

The identical certificates have been traced back to three business families in Old Delhi, the police said.

The matter came to light when an admissions section officer at a school in Chanakyapuri raised concerns over identical disability certificates submitted for the nursery admission of three children, aged three, five and four, under the CwSN category for the 2026-27 academic session.

“The junior officer raised the matter in the admissions section after which the school authorities submitted a written complaint on 16 September,” said a senior police officer aware of the matter.

Further, the officer told ThePrint that all three disability certificates claimed that the children had 41 percent hearing impairment. “The certificates were issued in the name of Lok Nayak Hospital. However an initial probe established that the hospital did not issue any of the three certificates,” said the officer.

The school also submitted identical letters of recommendation from the DoE to the police for verification. “The LoRs claimed that they were issued by DoE, but that too turned out to be forged,” the officer added.

Following the verification of both the disability certificates and the LoRs, the Delhi Police registered an FIR under sections related to cheating, forgery of records or public registers, using a forged document as genuine and criminal conspiracy of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

“We are trying to establish the origin of the forged documents, whether they were individually done or originated from a single source,” said the officer, adding that the police are yet to record statements of the three families.
