New Delhi: An incident of molestation in Samastipur more than a year ago. Another involving the harassment of a woman and her two friends in Banka in June this year. There were no complaints and no police action then. Now, suddenly, Bihar Police is being sent videos of old incidents, posted on social media by anonymous handles and keeping the force on its toes.
The police are scrambling to identify the two incidents, trace the victims and accused, and initiate action in the cases. The videos surfaced in the days after footage of the Jamui molestation emerged earlier this week.
In the first case, the Samastipur district police has so far arrested an accused for assaulting a minor girl and identified all four accused visible in the viral video. In the incident at Mandar Hills in Banka district, the police have identified the suspects and are conducting raids to nab them.
The series of videos and subsequent police probe has become a constant theme over the last few days ever since videos of molestation and harassment of two school-going minors emerged on social media, drawing widespread outrage and police investigation.
In the Mandar Hill case, the police sprang into action when they received a viral video on WhatsApp—technical verification of which led the cops to assess that the incident took place at the tourist spot in the district.
“Based on the video and identification of the offence, a suo moto FIR was registered under relevant sections,” Banka Superintendent of Police Amitesh Kumar told ThePrint.
He further said that over the course of the investigation, both the accused and the victims who were seen to be facing harassment and moral policing by the accused persons were identified.
Bihar Police officials said the investigation so far revealed that the accused persons had found that the minor girl was at the tourist spot and they threated to inform her parents.
“It has emerged in the investigation conducted so far that the video of the incident was shot by one of the accused persons, who has been identified as a local named Mithilesh Kumar, “ a police officer said, adding that the video was made viral by the accused persons this month after the victim did not pay up Rs 20,000 as demanded by the accused.
The victim and her two male friends left the spot after paying Rs 1,500 to the accused, identified as Abdullah, Vikas and Nitesh—identified by the police as the ones who assaulted and threatened the minors.
“Investigation conducted so far has revealed that all three of them were working outside Bihar as daily wage labourers,” the officer said. Abdullah was working in Hyderabad, while Vikash and Nitish Kumar Rai were working in Mumbai and Madhya Pradesh, respectively.
SP Kumar said teams have been constituted to nab the accused at the earliest. “Victims, including the minor girl, have been identified and her statement has been recorded for further investigation,” he told ThePrint.
Meanwhile, the police arrested one accused as part of the probe into the incident that took place in August last year, but the facts of which emerged only Thursday in a video that went viral on social media. The police invoked sections of the Protection of Children From Sexual Offences Act, 2012, after assessing that the victim was a minor.
“Given the sensitivity of the matter, the video was immediately technically verified, and the scene was identified as the road at the Latbasepura village and the incident took place 14 August 2025, approximately 15 months ago,” Samastipur Police said in a statement.
“Samastipur Police, acting swiftly, identified four accused involved in the incident and arrested one within five hours of receiving the information. Thereafter, further legal action is being taken,” it further said.
