Kendrapara (Odisha), Jul 24 (PTI) A 26-year-old woman was arrested Odisha’s Kendrapara district on Thursday for allegedly attempting to murder her 35-year-old paramour by slitting his throat, police said.
The incident took place on Tuesday night.
The arrested woman has been identified as Kumari Laxmipriya Acharya, a resident of Adhapati village in Tirtol police station area in Jagatsinghpur district, a police officer said.
The injured person, Satyajit Sarangi, also a native of Jagatsinghpur district, had married the cousin of the accused woman. After the death of his wife last year, Satyajit came into a relationship with the accused, he said.
The accused was working as a security guard at Kaliapani mines in Jajpur district where she was in a relationship with another security guard. Sarangi came to know about this and was opposed to it, the officer said.
The accused felt harassed by Sarangi and hatched a conspiracy to kill him. She asked him to take her on a motorcycle ride from Tirtol to Kendrapara on Tuesday night.
When they came near Hazari Bridge on National Highway 53 in Kendrapara Sadar police station, the woman urged Sarangi to stop the motorcycle and then slit his throat with a knife, following which she fled the spot, he said.
Passersby spotted him and took him to the district headquarters hospital at Kendrapara. Later, he was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack and his condition is stated to be critical.
Police arrested the woman and booked her under Section 109 (attempt to murder) of BNS, Kendrapara Superintendent of Police Siddharth Kataria said.
The accused woman was produced before a Kendrapara court, which remanded her to judicial custody after rejecting her bail plea, he said. PTI COR BBM BBM ACD
