Bhubaneswar, Jul 6 (PTI) Odisha paid tributes to Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his 125th birth anniversary on Monday, with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy and many others attending a special programme.
The leaders remembered Mookerjee’s life and contribution to the nation’s unity at a function held at a park named after him.
Majhi and BJP state president Manmohan Samal planted saplings to highlight environmental conservation.
At the state-level function organised by the Department of Odia Language, Literature and Culture, Odisha minister Suryavansi Suraj called Mookerjee a statesman and highlighted his role in maintaining the unity and integrity of the country.
“Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee dedicated his life to the unity and integrity of our country. He was well known as an orator and social reformer. As an eminent statesman and politician, he has sacrificed everything for the country,” Suraj said.
Literary figure and social worker Mukul Kanitkar, as the chief speaker, said the thoughts and consciousness of Mookerjee are a “source of inspiration for all of us”.
Ekamra MLA Babu Singh, eminent littérateur Sudarshan Nayak, and Odia Language, Literature and Culture Department Secretary Dr Vijay Ketan Upadhyay were present in the programme. PTI AAM AAM BDC
